Shepherd’s Cake involves us from England, and it is typically created using lamb or mutton. Here in the usa we're much more of a beef eating culture than the usual lamb eating one, so when the first is offered &"shepherd’s cake&" here, it's most frequently created using hamburger. In England (and New zealand and australia) they'd call the beef dish a &"cottage cake&" and also the lamb dish &"shepherd’s cake&".

It doesn't matter what you refer to it as, a shepherd’s cake is essentially a casserole having a layer of cooked meat and vegetables, capped with mashed taters, and baked within the oven before the the mashed taters are very well browned.

Whenever you dig in you receive a spoonful of mashed taters, some crispy bits, meat, and vegetables all-in-one bite. It’s pure comfort food.

Below is a straightforward recipe for any hamburger form of Shepherd’s Cake. The initial recipe originates from my pal Frances Hochschild, and her mother (thanks Frannie!).

I'm cooking mine now when i type. I am unable to wait to consume. Having a side of northern beans I believe it will do well! Interesting recipe.

I increased on this but still allow it to be. Once the kids were youthful I couldn’t even have it within the oven they simply ate it using the meat mixture put within the mashed taters. They loved it. I make regular whipped taters with milk and butter and that i just use peas and onions and that i use flour to thicken the juices. I like the thought from the gem onions though. I'm able to’t make a Shepard’s cake with any tomato product inside it but to every their own.
Thanks, Elise
