Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 medium tart apples, peeled and grated
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- BUTTER SAUCE:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup half-and-half cream
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350. Inside a large bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine flour, sodium bicarbonate, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg progressively increase creamed mixture. Stir in apples and walnuts.
- Pour right into a greased 8-in. square baking dish. Bake 40-forty-five minutes or until a toothpick placed in center arrives clean.
- Meanwhile, inside a saucepan, melt butter. Stir in sugars and cream. Provide a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat simmer, uncovered, fifteen minutes, stirring from time to time. Serve over warm cake. Yield: 9 servings.
