Delia left school at 16 without any qualifications and labored like a student hairstylist, a shop assistant and then in a travel agent. At 21, she stayed dish washing inside a restaurant, which experience piqued her curiosity about cooking. However, she states it had been whenever a boyfriend stored praising his former girlfriend's talents in the kitchen area that they got frustrated and began cooking seriously.
Delia studied British home cooking in the British Museum to locate inspiration to cook meals to see relatives and buddies, with mixed success. Certainly one of her first television encounters was being an assistant on the food advertisement. If somebody dropped a cake right before filming started, she volunteered to help make the substitute. The remainder, as the saying goes, is history.
