Homemade stuffing recipe using bread and sage
Ingredients
  • 1 pound dense country white-colored bread, decline in 3/4-inch cubes
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, plus much more for greasing the baking dish
  • 2 leeks, halved lengthwise
  • four to six ounces button or wild mushrooms, sliced 1/3-inch thick
  • Oil
  • 1 1/2 cups thinly sliced celery
  • two to three teaspoons crumbled dried sage
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme or dried marjoram, or perhaps a combination
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 3 cups chicken or poultry stock
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • Fresh sage or thyme sprigs, for garnish
Directions

Preheat the oven to 325 levels F.

Toast the bread cubes on baking sheets for around 25 minutes, stirring a couple of times, until gently brown and crisp. Transfer these to a sizable bowl.

Butter a 9 by 13-inch baking dish and hang aside.

Brush the leeks and mushrooms with oil and grill over medium heat until tender. Slice the white-colored and pale eco-friendly area of the leek and add them combined with the mushrooms towards the croutons. Warm 6 tablespoons butter inside a skillet and stir within the celery. Saute until soft, about 7 minutes. Add some sage, thyme. salt, and pepper. Stir to mix and scrape in to the bowl of croutons. Add some stock 1 cup at any given time before the bread is extremely moist although not soupy. Cover and refrigerate the dressing until available.

Turn the oven as much as 425 levels F.

Taste and adjust the seasoning from the dressing. Whisk the eggs and baking powder together and incorporate in to the dressing. Spoon the dressing in to the prepared baking dish and canopy. Transfer towards the oven and bake for twenty five minutes. Uncover and continue baking 15-20 additional minutes, or until gently browned and crusty on the top.

Garnish using the plant sprigs and serve the dressing hot.
