NOTE: Andhra pappu is generally on thicker side. Whenever you combine it with grain then you're able to make ladoo or balls from it. That much thick this dal said to be. However I and hubby don't prefer that thick dal, and so i stored it on little thinner side. However, you may change the consistency with the addition of or lowering the water quantity.
Serving suggestions: Serve tomato pappu with steamed grain together with roasted crispy pappadum and pickle on side. You may also serve dry veg sabzi together with dal-grain to create complete healthy meal.
Typically, this tomato pappu is offered with grain together with drizzle of ghee (clarified butter) regarding this. I understand by doing this single cup might consume more ghee. Rather you may make tempering with ghee instead of oil. By doing this you won't miss the taste of ghee.
There's a way of making tomato dal within the pressure oven only. First make tadka, fry onion-tomato and spices, add washed toovar dal together with water. Then pressure prepare it till dal is cooked. But in some way Irrrve never like steamed taste of onion-tomato within the dal, so I don't prefer this process.
You may already know that dal is staple food in each and every Indian household whether or not this’s north Indian or south Indian or other. There are lots of variation of creating dal therefore we never become bored of getting dal everyday. I actually do make other dal recipes that are quick to create e.g. moong dal. chilke wali moong dal and much more. Also I'll be share a lot more different dal recipes later on.
&- Toor dal (arhar dal): Typically toor dal can be used to make tomato pappu. As well as the variation you can test with masoor dal or moong dal too. For those who have some time and planned ahead, you are able to soak the dal in enough water for half an hour. It'll lessen the pressure cooking.
&- Tomato plants: This is actually the component making the dal tangy. We're using great deal of tomato plants, so please use ripe tomato plants. If used unripe and sour tomato plants, the tomato dal is going to be too tangy.
