RECIPE TO RICHES Season 1 Finale
The six remaining home cooks from across the nation counseled me outfitted within their Sunday perfect for the growing season finale of Recipe to Riches. The drama was suitably amped up, because of the $250,000 on the line: gold envelopes that contains the identities from the winners were stored on the pedestal within glass lid, forever in plain view (we attended the taping personally now and also got to determine a couple of off-camera hijinks, like idol judges Laura Calder and Tony Chapman getting a mock slap fight). Host Jesse Palmer known as up two contestants at any given time, Noah’s ark style, for any one-on-one elimination (particularly, this structure was just possible with Smart Cookie creator Sonya Walos’ s absence she never emerged). Before each matchup, a typical reality TV video recap of every contestant’s “Recipe to Riches journey” was performed. Then, the usually cheerful Palmer switched all of a sudden grave before revealing which contestant could be going home.
Round One
The outlet faceoff was between Jacqui Keseluk (Rock ’n’ Peach Bliss Cheesecake) and John Grass (Chicken Grenades). Keseluk was the very first kicked from the running, but says her old college was helping her plan a pastry shop anyway. On his long ago to his seat, Grass gave fellow barbecuer-in-arms Robert Luft a hearty fist bump.
Round Two
Next were Melaney Gleeson-Lyall (Bannock Hazelnut Cake) and Luft (Slow and occasional Pulled Pork). Lyall credited your competition with getting her mother’s side, father’s side and adopted family together the very first time. However, it had been Luft who got the nod for the following round, coming back Grass’s fist bump because he required his seat.
Round Three
An almost-mute Rosy Soobrattee (Kulfi Karma) required happens alongside a dumbstruck Glo McNeill (Luscious Lemon Pudding Cake)—“You’re just giving hands signals today,” Palmer quipped. Once she found her words, G-Lo described that her boy Came, captain of Canada’s largest icebreaker, really moved a couple of satellites around so that you can watch her episode within the arctic—once the ship hit dry pier, Loblaws shipped 24 installments of the pudding cakes for that crew. Within the finish, a visibly disappointed Soobrattee was edged from the final three. “Life is brief, existence is nice,” she mused. “I’m truly fortunate.”
Final Elimination
With simply Luft, Grass and Glo remaining (and situated in perfect height order), the time had come for Galen Weston Junior. to create his grand entrance and drop a couple of pithy comments. The Chicken Grenades, for example, “virtually blew the freezer doorways off.” First out: Luft, who playing a grin on his face along with a bounce in the step. Lower to 2, McNeill confessed that they had “very, early butterflies in [her] tummy doing handstands.” For that final announcement, Palmer, during the last time, switched on his latter-day Cronkite face and announced that Granny Glo was Canada’s choice as champion of Recipe to Riches. Cue a huge novelty cheque along with a face filled with confetti. Family, buddies and idol judges all rushed onstage for that requisite hugs, before Palmer closed the show, he says auditions for any second season aren’t a long way away. We can’t say we’re shocked: the show is equal parts reality TV and marketing stunt, and it has a built-in mix-country group of followers of ambitious home cooks. You never know? Maybe the coming year, we’ll be graced having a President’s Choice–brand gulab jamun.
