History
Founded around the beginning of the seventh century BC by Greek settlers, and initially referred to as Poseidonia, it later grew to become the Roman town of Paestum in 273 BC following the Graeco-Italian Poseidonians sided using the loser, Pyrrhus, in war against Rome throughout the first quarter from the 3rd century BC.
