
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup red or wild grain
- 1/2 cup steel-cut oatmeal
- 1/4 cup gem barley or farro
- 1/2 cup farina or wheat cereal
- 1 2 -inch piece orange peel
- 1 cinnamon stick
- one to two tablespoons packed dark or light brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup dried fruit (cranberries, cherries, raisins and/or chopped apricots)
- Chopped nuts, walnut syrup and/or milk, for serving (optional)
Directions
As much as 12 hrs before serving, place the grain, oatmeal, barley and farina inside a 6-to-10-cup grain oven. Stir within the orange peel, cinnamon stick, sugar, salt and 5 cups water. Add some dried fruit.
Close the oven, set the timer and program for that porridge cycle to ensure that breakfast is prepared in the preferred time. (Without having a porridge setting in your grain oven, program for 50 to 55 minutes.
Serve the nice and cozy porridge with nuts, syrup and/or milk, if preferred.
