A Brief History from the Secret Cow Level
Many players from the original Diablo will recall the mysterious rumor there would be a Secret Cow Level. The storyline went that by hitting a particular cow in Tristram a particular quantity of occasions, you can access a wondrous place referred to as Secret Cow Level. There is, obviously, no Cow Level in Diablo, however the legend was created. When StarCraft was launched, it featured a cheat code, "There's no cow level". It was our method of formally confirming there was, actually, not a secret Cow Level. During producing Diablo II, gamers frequently requested if there'd be any cows to fight hanging around. On April first, 1999, a Diablo II Screenshot each week featured cows fighting. People wondered when the screenshot was an April Fool's joke or maybe there actually was a Secret Cow Level planned for Diablo II. When Diablo II was launched, a search item known as The Horadric Cube permitted players to mix products to produce new products. It had not been lengthy before players were tinkering with Cube combinations, wishing to obtain the secrets of unlock new and effective secrets. Eventually a recipe is discovered that revealed probably the most anticipated secret of all of them -- the key Cow Level in Diablo II!
Visiting the key Cow Level
So that you can produce the red cow portal resulting in the key Cow Level your character must first complete the "Eve of Destruction" quest (the ultimate quest in Act V) on a single difficulty setting.
NOTE: The Key Cow Level holds a concealed quest: killing the Cow King (sometimes known as "milking" the Cow King understand why below). There's a small downside, however: finishing this quest disables the Horadric recipe accustomed to produce the cow portal, for your character with that difficulty setting. It really works the following:
Imagine that the cow portal continues to be produced and someone (henceforth: "Kingslayer") kills the Cow King. Obviously the Kingslayer may be the character that lands the killing blow around the Cow King (if your mercenary or other friendly unit offers the final blow, it counts for that character (s)he/it serves). Remember that anybody may go into the Secret Cow Level with the cow portal.
We make use of the following terminology according to quest status:
a) "Pre-opener": a personality who hasn't yet completed the "Eve of Destruction" quest about this difficulty (and therefore cannot produce the cow portal yet).
b) "Cow-quester": a personality who completed the "Eve of Destruction" quest although not the Cow King quest about this difficulty.
c) "Ex-opener": a personality who completed the Cow King quest inside a previous game about this difficulty (and therefore cannot produce the cow portal).
Only figures Within the Secret Cow Level in the very instant once the Cow King is slain could possibly complete the search. Now,
(1) IF Kingslayer would be a or c, THEN everybody is unaffected, i.e. Cow King quest status doesn't change.
Observe that in situation 2 even figures who complete the Baal quest later on will nevertheless remain not able to produce the cow portal. Also observe that it does not matter if you're in a party or otherwise. Location: INSIDE/Outdoors during the time of the kill is exactly what matters here.
Due to the above: While in doubt, repel!
Additionally towards the somewhat at random generated products The Cow King always drops 8 x Stamina Concoction (MooOOOooo, MILK!) when wiped out for that quest. As these potions aren't dropped otherwise, they actually verify whether it was basically a search kill.
Visit the Rogue Encampment in Act I. Place one Tome of Town Portal + Wirt's Leg in to the Horadric Cube striking the Transmute button. A Red Portal will available to the key Cow Level. You have to transmute this mixture within the Rogue Encampment for that portal to spread out. Should you hear a note, "I can not do thisInch then you're doing a problem. Make certain you've completed the final quest in Act V, you have placed the right products within the Horadric Cube, and you are transmuting the products within the correct location.
Wirt's Leg could be guaranteed in Tristram. Wirt's body is situated in the very best left quadrant from the town. Click Wirt's body and, among a baby shower of gold, his Leg will drop on the floor. Don't be concerned if you've been there before and didn't remember to obtain the Leg -- you could return and obtain a different one by coming back towards the Stony Field and entering the Red Portal into Tristram.
After you have Wirt's Leg, go back to the Rogue Encampment and set it along with a Tome of Town Portal to your Horadric Cube. The Tome need not be filled to operate, so if you don't desire to use the Tome you've full of 20 Town Portals, you can just buy a nearly empty one from Akara.
