Southeast Chicago -- Altgeld Gardens
Altgeld Gardens is really a community in Southeast Chicago that's been battling with problems with ecological toxicants and pollutants for many years. This poor, predominantly African-American community continues to be known as the Toxic Donut since they're encircled by a lot of landfills, industrial sites and factories. Within the late 1970's People for Community Recovery (PCR) started to assist bring justice for this community.
PCR began by Hazel Manley and it is now operated by her daughter Cheryl Manley.
