Review: Happy Herbivore's Mushroom Burgers

I've got a confession.
I have fallen deeply in love with two cookbooks. I've barely been making my very own dishes recently as I am completely smitten using these recipes. My newest cook book love is The Happy Herbivore Cook book by Lindsay Nixon (also known as- The Happy Herbivore. herself). Today's dinner was the clincher: HH's Mushroom Burgers (page 89 from the cook book). WOW. They're absolutely, hands-lower my personal favorite veggie hamburger EVER. You believe I am kidding? Well, my buddies, you're sadly mistaken. I can not describe their glory. Irrrve never, ever eat 2 burgers in a single sitting, however i did tonight. I could not resist I am weak against their ability.

Of course, Irrrve never follow recipes 100%, however i came pretty close with this particular one. The alterations I designed to the initial recipe:
  • I made use of white-colored button mushrooms rather of creminis.
  • Used 2 cloves minced garlic clove rather of garlic clove powder.
  • I added about 1/3 teaspoon liquid smoke.
  • Used freshly drenched cooked kidney beans rather of canned.
The burgers held their shape very well, which does not always happen with homemade veggie burgers. I baked mine, per HH's instructions, plus they had a nice crispness round the outer edges but still remained moist inside. Another magical task that many veggie burgers can't accomplish. Adding the BBQ sauce and steak sauce really gave the burgers an attractive depth of flavor. I had been really just a little cautious about using mushrooms inside a hamburger, thinking it might simply make it mushy and taste an excessive amount of like mushrooms. Don't misunderstand me, I Really Like mushrooms a great deal, but I'm not going a hamburger to taste just like a giant mushroom. I would not have ever suspected there have been mushrooms within the burgers basically had not built them into myself. And, most importantly off, these were Very easy to create. I can not recommend them enough.

I possibly could really continue concerning the burgers, but I'd rather you simply built them into yourself! I made some baked yams fries to choose mine. Plus they create a magnificent combo, basically do let them know myself. So, the moral from the story: Result in the burgers. You will not be disappointed. Or, maybe you'll be. but that is only because you are insane.

Individuals chips look wonderful! And That I love when dinner works out to fantastic and you may't help but eat more than ever before!

I really like the Happy Herbivore cook book! The recipes are tasty, simple to make, don't require costly ingredients so when I eat HH food I don't feel all greasy and nasty afterwords.

I bet liquid smoke will be a nice edition plus they look wonderful! I've built them into with white-colored and brown mushrooms. I love brown better but white-colored works okay! Thanks :-)

Hi Mandee,
You're absolutely right. We couldn't get an adequate amount of the tasty burgers. And also the yams chips were insanely easy. Peel and chop taters to preferred size (the smaller sized, the faster they prepare). Preheat oven to 450 levels F. Then invest the taters right into a large bowl and drizzle 1 teaspoon oil into bowl. Toss to coat. Then lay the taters on a baking sheet in one layer, sprinkle after some salt and bake on the lower rack about 30-40 minutes, flipping them midway.

Elisabeth,
You're absolutely right! That's something I simply LOVE concerning the HH cook book. Easy recipes with easy-to-find things that don't be very expensive. My nearest WholeFoods is definitely an hour away, and so i don't frequently have the niche vegan products some cookbooks demand. And, low-fat recipes with a lot of flavor will always be a success beside me. I don't feel considered lower. despite eating 2 burgers. )
