Skunk Ape Double Black IPA, the very first beer within the Mogollon Monster Mash series. The skunk Ape, a sizable hairy, bipedal mammal, is carefully similar to the famous Sasquatch. 22oz bottle flows brownish with tan mind. Grapefruit pine aroma. Malt and pine taste.

Bomber put a obvious dark reddish brown having a lingering ring of tan foam. Aromas of roastiness, earthiness, grapefruit and lightweight pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth having a dry finish. Flavors of roastiness, earthiness, grapefruit and pine having a smooth dry moderatly bitter lingering roasty citrus finish.

22oz bottle, great because of MikedR. Black body. Good thin light brown mind. Good lace. Nice nose of earthy and herbal hops, chocolate, and roasty malts. Bigger body, though not as large as the ABV indicate. Good chocolate malt, roasty flavor. Nice herbal and earthy hop within the flavor, again. Good toasty malts, light roast. Little coffee, good bitter chocolates. Nice longer chocolatey roasty mildly herbal hoppy aftertaste. Good smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Nice bitter and flavor, little either in direction, though. It°s impressive how good-masked the tenPercent ABV is. Super easy to consume, tasty, even. Barely an indication of alcohol. My type of black IPA. Great! Simple to drink! Scrumptious! Thanks Mike!

Bottle: Thanks Andrew: Medium-sized vast and slow disappearing creamy beige rappel mind on the top of the ebony beer. Smell hops, cream, malts, wet wood, herbs, milk, milk chocolate. Taste bitters, milk chocolate, chocolate milk, some toasted herbs, hops, toast, yeast, toasted barley malts and a few milky chocolate spices. Aftertaste is great floral with a few chocolate, bitter, toasted barley malts and milk/milk chocolate. Low carbo, creamy texture, medium to full along with a creamy texture.

Put from the 22 ounce bottle because of mikedr. Flows an almost black having a large froth of khaki colored foam. The aroma is loaded with lots of simcoe dankness and resinous pine. Taste is bitter in advance, but progresses to some sweet, toffee like profile. Alcohol is well hidden.

Bottle, from PHX. Pure awesome. Chocolate & malt around the nose, has the aroma of an imperial stout. Flows black, light mind. Can use a little more hops around the flavor, but that°s being picky. Awesome beer.

Interesting. From the 22 oz. bottle from Total Wine, flows deep brown/black right into a chilled pint glass. Initially it didn't have mind and so i thought something was wrong, however it created a stout-like mind that lasted a bit. Aroma is medium-level: hops, but more. Flavor is hops, molasses, stout-like, along with a lingering flavor of maltiness within the mouth. Lots of flavors here. Thick around the palate. Put the remainder right into a tulip glass and also got more flavor and aroma: some chocolate because it warms. Great one.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2012 A energetic pour into my Bruery Tulip creates a three-finger thick, brown tinged, dark tan colored mind. The beer is really a concentrated brown color that shows a obvious, dark plum / concentrated-burnt-amber hue when held to the light. The aroma includes a dirty hoppiness into it that could be highlighted with a hint of diacetyl (though in hindsight, this last is probably just more dank hop character) dank, herbaceous, with a lot of skunky °hemp°, a large woodsy peppery notes, a nearly caraway like note. Backing notes of tangelo zest, roasted wholegrain notes, a floral citrus character, and a little tropical fruit character that leans towards lychee, possibly kumquat, and a little peach.

Plenty of fruity hop character is apparent in advance, because the beer moves over the tongue it accumulates an even roasted grain character, a natural hop character, some peppery hemp like notes, a woodsy pine character, a chalky dark malt character, along with a nice chocolate flavor that gently influences the conclusion. The fruit character contributes flavors of tangelo, ample peach notes, some lychee, an even kumquat zest note, and a lot of floral citrus notes. The bitterness here's quite smooth a lot of it is contributed through the roast malt character, the remainder through the hop character, but it's really quite smooth, however with sufficient bite to help keep things moored here.
