You will find a large number of various kinds of pan dulce in Mexico, many are available from coast to coast (conchas, cuernos, orejas, cocoles, semitas, etc.) and a few other are regional specialties. They vary from being essentially pastries (orejas) to virtually cakes. The only real common denominator I'm able to consider is they’re all yeast breads and they're all sweet. Apart from that, every recipe differs. Maybe in case your friend is much more specific.

They are considered MEXICAN bakeries products. You will find Guatemalan bakeries I've been to in Chicago and they've similar searching products however with different names. so you need to know things to look for fit etc.

Each Latin American country their very own special pastries so just try one which looks good. This is applicable to empanadas too. They vary alot from nation to nation
