Rava idli recipe Instant idli recipe produced from coarse semolina, yogurt and eno fruit salt. They are quick to create because no soaking, grinding and fermenting process needed.

These instant idli has soft, light and spongy texture. Adding eno fruit salt afford them the ability.

To make rava idli, I have tried personally coarse number of semolina. You should use fine semolina, if coarse the first is unavailable inside your kitchen.

Ingredients for rava idli recipe:

  • For idli batter:
    Sooji (Semolina or rava) 1 cup
    Salt to taste
    Yogurt (Curd or dahi) 1 cup
    Cilantro or coriander leaves 1-two tablespoons, chopped finely
    Water to cup
    Eno fruit salt teaspoon
  • Coarsely powdered:
    Black peppercorns teaspoon
    Cumin seeds teaspoon
  • For tempering:
    Oil 1 tablespoon
    Mustard seeds teaspoon
    Urad dal teaspoon
    Chana dal teaspoon
    Cashew nuts 1 tablespoon, chopped or damaged
    Eco-friendly chili 1, chopped finely
    Ginger root paste or freshly grated 1 teaspoon
    Curry leaves 6-7

Steps to make rava idli (Step-by-step Recipe with Photos):

1) To create idli batter, take sooji, salt, yogurt and chopped coriander leaves inside a bowl.

3) Meantime take cumin seeds and peppercorns in mortar and pestle.

5) Also prepare the idli stand or moulds. Grease the moulds well using oil. Ensure that it stays aside.

6) Now heat the oil in a tiny pan on medium heat for tempering. Once hot add mustard seeds and allow them to pop.

7) Adding urad dal, chana dal and cashew nuts.

9) Adding ginger root paste, eco-friendly chili and curry leaves.

11) Switch off the stove and add prepared powder.

13) Immediately add this tempering towards the prepared batter.

15) Following this 15-twenty minutes resting time, you will see that sooji absorbed the majority of the water. And also the batter is actually thick. So add some water to create batter consistency. You might need about to cup water.

17) Now prepare the steamer. Add glassful water within the steamer or idli oven, take it to some simmer.

18) During the time of steaming or making the idli, add eno fruit salt and sprinkle little water on the top. It will begin to bubble immediately. Rapidly mix rid of it.

20) Now place this idli stand into steamer or oven. Steam for 10-12 minutes on medium heat. Or up until the toothpick/knife placed within the center arrives clean.

Serving suggestion: Serve rava idli with coconut chutney or the selection of any chutney like a breakfast or brunch. It may be offered with chutney podi too. To really make it an easy meal (lunch/dinner), serve idli with chutney and sambar .

Notes:

  • Always add eno fruit salt before steaming. Meaning add some eno towards the batter, mix, immediately pour into moulds and steam. Don't let the batter sit after adding eno.
  • If making bigger batch and streaming into batches, then take away the one part of batter in another bowl, add eno to that particular batter only and steam. When ready for second batch, add eno towards the second part of batter and steam.
  • Rather of eno, you should use sodium bicarbonate. If using sodium bicarbonate adding to teaspoon from it.
  • Always steam the idlis on medium heat to obtain the soft idlis.
  • To create jain idlis, skip ginger root within the recipe.
  • For that variation, you can include veggies (e.g. chopped carrots, beans, cabbage, broccoli or eco-friendly peas) within the batter.
