Split urad dal recipe gujarati cuisine

Ingredients for Gujarati Urad Dal :

1 cup whole Urad dal (Black gram lentils)
2 small tomato plants, chopped
1 table-spoon, grated ginger root (adrak)
8-10 cloves garlic clove, sliced (lahsun)
2-3 eco-friendly chillies, chopped
8-10 curry leaves (Kadhi patta)
1 table-spoon coriander leaves, finely chopped to garnish (dhaniya patti)
2 table-spoon ghee (Clarified butter)
2 table-spoon butter
4 cup water
salt to taste

Spices and herbs :
1/2 t-spoon mustard seeds (Rai)
1/2 t-spoon cumin seeds (jeera)

1/4 t-spoon asafoetida (Hing)
1/2 t-spoon Amchur (Dry Mango Powder)

Steps to make Gujarati Urad Dal :

  • Pressure prepare Urad Dal with 4 cups water, turmeric and salt for 15-20 mins. or until it will get soft.
  • Now, for tempering,have a separate large fry pan, heat ghee inside it over medium heat. Splutter cumin seeds, asafoetida, mustard seeds and eco-friendly chillies, stir it for 15-30 secs. Then, add ginger root, garlic clove and curry leaves. Prepare for around 3-4 mins. stirring frequently. Add chopped tomato plants towards the pan and prepare further on medium flame for just two-3 mins.
  • Add cooked dal, amchur powder and salt towards the large fry pan and switch heat to high, stir rid of it. If this starts boiling, turn heat to low, cover the pan and prepare further for 8-ten mins.
  • Garnish Gujarati Urad Dal with chopped coriander leaves and a pair of table-spoon of butter.
