Ground lamb gyros slow cooker recipe

100 million years back, my initial job was working in the Zoo, within the education department. I loved that job---I loved the folks, the job, the creatures, talking with the general public, and also the food.

I truly loved the meals.

I believe I spent almost every dollar I made visiting the different hole-in-the-wall restaurants ordering food I'd nothing you've seen prior heard about which were within easy reach. Directly next door would be a Gyro stand. A lot of us would run next door and order gyros (within our uniforms boy I really hope we washed our hands first) and stand it a crazy line to buy after which eat our gyros basically we walked to work.

I understand we pronounced them wrong whenever we visited order. Nobody cared. Which was nice.

We'd these yesterday for Adam's birthday he switched 24. again.

1/2 pound ground lamb
1/2 pound ground poultry
2 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 chopped onion
3 cloves minced garlic clove
juice from 1 lemon

For thatTzatziki sauc e (optional, although not really):

1 small cucumber, peeled, seeded, and chopped
1 cup plain non fat yogurt
1 tablespoon essential olive oil
3 cloves minced garlic clove

two tablespoons chopped fresh mint
juice from 1 lemon

Extra stuff (optional. for reals.):

--pita bread (but we used corn tortillas)
--lettuce
--tomato plants
--feta cheese
--olives

Don't panic about the amount of ingredients.

This all comes together very rapidly. I promise.

Slice the onion, and three cloves of garlic clove, and insert them in the foot of your crockpot.

In a tiny mixing bowl, combine the 2 kinds of ground meat using the paprika and oregano.

In case your spices posess zero fresh smell any longer, or you think they've already been bought in the 90s, consider buying fresh bottles with this dish.

Create a little meatloaf together with your hands. Place the meatloaf log on the top from the chopped onion and garlic clove inside your crockpot. Squeeze the juice of 1 lemon over the top meat.

Cover and prepare on LOW for several-4 hrs, or on HIGH for around 2.

I, um, didn't remember to connect the crockpot until 2pm yesterday and cooked this on high for exactly 2 hrs.

When you are awaiting the meat to prepare, constitute a load from the tasty Tzatziki sauce and set it within the fridge.

You will be aware once the meat is completed, because it won't be raw whenever you reduce it.

This really is all so technical, you realize.

Carefully! take away the meat in the crockpot and slice it thinly on the cutting board.

Serve it with pitas (or corn or brown grain tortillas) using the Tzatziki sauce and whatever preferred fixings you've selected.

I loved making these!

I had not used garlic clove and onion just like a flavor infuser before, and it was really excited to understand a brand new trick.

This isn't greasy, and also the flavor was good. It had been totally different from the way i recall the gyros from next door in the Zoo, but close enough which i would certainly make sure they are again.

I recall much more grease, and much more salt. and also, since I am not 16 any longer, I am no more thinking about that, anyhow.
