Traditional German Beef Rouladen having a wonderful gravy, just like my mother made and today I make. This can be a family favorite, and a very good Sunday or Holiday meal. We love our rouladen with steamed new taters or potato dumplings along with a side of my German Rotkohl German Rotkohl - Spiced Red Cabbage With Apples and Wine or Country Eco-friendly Beans Oma's Country Eco-friendly Beans With Bacon Onion (Gruene Bohnen). I sometimes serve dinner rolls with fresh butter, to complete your food. Guten appetit!
Ingredients Diet
- 2 1 ⁄2 lbs lean high-quality beef round steak. reduce 8 equal rectangular sections and pounded flat
- 8 tablespoons yellow mustard
- pepper and salt, to taste
- 4 slices bacon. chopped
- 1 ⁄2 cup white-colored onion, chopped
- 1 ⁄4 cup dill pickle. finely chopped (could use dill relish)
- 1 ⁄4 cup oil, for frying
- 3 1 ⁄2 cups warm water. to pay for (or hot beef broth)
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 ⁄3 cup flour
- 1 ⁄4 cup fresh parsley. minced (for serving)
- wooden toothpick (or could use cooking twine or white-colored thread for securing rouladen)
