I am a new comer to the house brew scene, and I have made a few extract brews from recipes within the beginners books which i own, so I have made the decision you're ready to proceed to attempting my very own recipe.
I wish to create a Black IPA, but I'd rather not blindly consume a recipe. Things I did was looked through a few of the recipes on beersmith and located one which looked promising. I Then researched a couple of clones of my personal favorite IPAs (Lagunitas and Modus Hoperandi). I required the grain bill in the Black IPA and also the hops profiles in the other IPA's, made some minor modifications with beersmith to attain gravity, color, and IBU which i thought sounded good.
My worry is the fact that I'll just finish track of some thing as an imperial stout. I am still really becoming accustomed to which ingredients modify the beer in a few ways, so I am unsure how this recipe will finish up. Have a look and allow me to read your comments.

Read this excellent 2010 article from Brew Your Personal magazine on Black IPAs. It states the Great American Beer Festival adopted that style as "American-Style India Black Ale", and also the characteristics are:

- Bitterness = 50–70 IBU
- Alcohol by volume = 6–7.5%
