Diethyl pyrocarbonate (DEPC) is an excellent, nonspecific inhibitor of RNases. It is normally accustomed to treat water and solutions before dealing with easily degraded RNA. DEPC responds to amine, hydroxy and thiol categories of proteins therefore inactivating RNAses (along with other enzymes).
