Defense Edit
Shields can be used for blocking incoming attacks. One causes the gamer to slow to some sneaking pace, and blockable attacks originating from while watching player will deal 33% damage for melee attacks with no damage for projectiles. Once the shield blocks a panic attack, it requires damage comparable to the effectiveness of the attack (rounded lower) plus 1. Some non-damage results of ranged attacks (for example being focused on fire with a fireball) are avoided, while some (for example being focused on fire with a flaming arrow) aren't. Knockback from projectiles is avoided, although not from melee attacks. Whenever a melee attack is blocked, the attacker might be knocked back slightly. In 1.11 [ approaching ]. blockable attacks originating from in-front will deal no damage under any circumstance.
The shield blocks any directional attacks originating from as much as (although not including) 90° from the horizontal direction the gamer is facing, i.e. it covers almost a complete hemisphere while watching player. The player's vertical rotation normally does not matter towards the direction of blocked attacks, however a person facing upright or straight lower may be not able to bar attacks from the direction. Similarly, a panic attack originating from directly above or underneath can't be blocked because it doesn't have horizontal direction.
Blockable attacks include mob melee attacks, arrows, fireballs, tossed products for example snowballs. damage from Thorns. and a few explosions (e.g. creeper explosions or TNT ignited by another player are blockable, although not TNT ignited on your own or with a redstone mechanism).
If attacked by an axe. utilisation of the shield might be disabled for five seconds. The shield also doesn't block for .25 seconds after being selected.
When hit by an arrow, the arrow can ricochet from the shield striking other entities.
Applying patterns Edit
Applies the banner pattern towards the shield. The banner is consumed.
The shield should have no preexisting patterns.
Also repairs the shield to full durability. [ until 1.11 ]
Doesn't change existing durability or enchantments around the shield. [ approaching 1.11 ]
In contrast to banners. shields can't be repainted or washed inside a cauldron. Shields only have half the resolution of banners, making patterns look slightly different. Hanging around files, the pattern textures are available in another directory known as entity/shield.
Shields with patterns may also be acquired utilizing the same instructions as banners, except banner needs to be substituted for shield .
