  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sodium bicarbonate
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • two tablespoons unsweetened, cacao powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup vegetable oil or canola
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla flavoring
  • 1-2 oz. red food coloring, depends how deep you would like the colour
  • 1 teaspoon white-colored distilled vinegar
  • ½ cup plain hot coffee, prepared (don't skip this component)
  1. Preheat oven to 325.
  2. Grease and flour 2 9-inch round cake pans. Put aside.
  3. Inside a medium bowl, whisk together flour, sodium bicarbonate, baking powder, cacao powder and salt. Put aside.
  4. Inside a large bowl, combine the sugar and vegetable oil.
  5. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vanilla and red food coloring until combined.
  6. Stir within the coffee and white-colored vinegar.
  7. Combine the wet ingredients using the dry ingredients just a little sometimes, mixing after each addition, just until combined. (Batter is going to be thin)
  8. Pour the batter evenly into each pan.
  9. Bake in the centre rack for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick placed in center arrives with moist crumbs clinging into it. Don't over bake as cake is constantly prepare because it cools.
  10. Let pans awesome on the cooling rack before the pans are warm to touch.
  11. Slide a knife or offset spatula around within the pans to release the wedding cake in the pan.
  12. Lightly take away the cakes in the pan and allow them to finish cooling. (The nice and cozy cake can be really delicate)
  13. Frost the wedding cake with cream cheese frosting once the cakes have cooled completely.


Make sure to not overbake! Look into the cake at half an hour as some ovens run really hot.
