Recipe for chia seed crackers

September 27, 2013

I really like crackers, and that i love much more making crackers in your own home. It’s incredible just how much better they taste than store-bought.
Whenever my niece is visiting, we usually make wheat grains cheese crackers together. Much like Cheez-It, just better.
She has a great time doing the work. I lately bought some animal farm small cookie cutters and she or he cuts the cracker’s dough into cows, pigs, sheeps, etc. Then she places them around the baking sheet in an exceedingly specific order, sheeps close together, hens with cows, etc. You realize, kids’ fantasy.
Whenever we’re done, I offer her the entire batch to consider home, to ensure that she will drive them to college on her lunch and First And Foremost parading together with her buddies.

A few days ago I needed to create gluten-free and paleo friendly crackers using chia seeds.
My niece digged the concept, therefore we try our hands their way.
First batch didn’t labored out, the dough was too wet and impossible to chop into crackers.
The 2nd batch was perfect, but we set the oven excessive and burned them.
Of course, third time’s the charm. We made tasty gluten-free, grain-free, reduced carb and paleo-friendly crackers.

Ingredients
Makes 3-4 dozen small/medium crackers (I made 48 small crackers)

1 large free-range organic egg
two tablespoons chia seeds
1 cup / 3.8 oz / 110 gr almond meal/flour
6 tablespoons grated Mozzarella dairy product
½ teaspoon fine grain ocean salt
¼ teaspoon ground pepper
¼ teaspoon ground red pepper cayenne (optional)

Inside a large bowl combine all ingredients and blend until a dough ball forms.
When the dough is simply too wet and does not form right into a ball add further almond meal, one tablespoon at any given time. On the other hand, when the dough is simply too dry then add water ½ teaspoon at any given time.

Wrap dough in waxed paper or plastic wrap, and refrigerate not less than half an hour, and as much as three days.
Take away the dough in the refrigerator ten minutes prior to being prepared to roll it.
Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Place dough between two sheets of parchment paper, press right into a flat disc, and roll it having a moving pin before the dough is 1/8-inch thick. Reduce preferred shapes utilizing a knife or cutter. Any leftover dough could be rerolled for additional crackers.
Having a spatula, transfer the crackers towards the prepared baking sheets, allowing nearly one inch between crackers.
Bake before the bottoms are browned, and also the tops undertake enough color too - 12 to fifteen minutes, for the way thick your crackers really are. Look into the oven frequently to avoid burning the crackers (I’ve learned hard way!)
Rotate the sheets midway through baking (or once the crackers within the back look like browning more rapidly compared to front).
Let it awesome before storing away.

I simply discovered your site about the other day and that i make this recipe two times! I've made two other recipes came from here too -- I usually appear not to have all the feaures around the component list on hands and so i finish up adapting before I've even attempted the recipe the very first time, however i'm often a good prepare and so i'm positive about my substitutions.

The very first time I ground my very own almond meal and since I didn't possess a whole cup, I added ground hemp and sesame seeds. Pretty damn good crackers! I folded 'em pretty thin and that i got about 50-60 crackers. The 2nd time I managed to get. I didn't use almond meal whatsoever 'cause I loved the hemp and sesame seeds, and so i ground enough chia, hemp, and sesame seeds to from the cup of almond meal, they were better still! Still got nearly 60 crackers from the batch. Shared all of them buddies who totally love them!

This is on my small weekend cooking list in the future which weekend I'll make use of the almond meal.

Appreciate discussing your trip around!

I have to try your hemp+chia+sesame seeds version as soon as possible. It's so genius.
Many thanks for that awesome idea!

Thanks so much for including grams and °C. I'm able to't wait to do this recipe with my little granddaughters.

I simply made they and them are extremely tasty. Used plain flour and I needed to add a couple of tbsp . water. I'll certainly make sure they are again.
