This straightforward German lentil soup recipe includes a truly traditional flavor.

1 mind of Cabbage
3 slices of Bacon
2 medium White-colored Onions
2 cloves of Garlic clove
3 cups Vegetable or Chicken broth (homemade or from bouillon)
3 large Carrots (yellow carrots if available)
2 large Russet Taters
1 stalk of Celery
3 Sprigs of Parsley
Pepper and salt to taste
Neat and shred Cabbage
Peel and slice Onions and Garlic clove
In soup pot, gently fry finely-cut Bacon
Gently saute Onion and Garlic clove with Bacon in soup pot
Add Broth and Water to soup pot
Wash and slice Carrots and Celery
Peel and dice Taters
Add Cabbage, Carrots, Potato, Celery, Parsley and Bay Leaf to soup pot
Provide a boil and simmer, partly covered, for 1 hrs
Remove Parsley and Bay Leaf
Pepper and salt to taste
Serve
