Ingredients

  • 2 pounds orange fleshed sweet taters (yams), about 3 large ones
  • 3 Tablespoons of canola or any other high smoke-point oil for example grapeseed oil or grain bran oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1-2 Tablespoons of spice or spice combination of your liking: chipotle powder, smoked paprika, Chinese five-spice, pumpkin cake spice, garam masala, Cajun seasoning, etc.

Method

1 Preheat oven and roasting pan: Preheat oven to 450°F. (For additional crispiness, preheat your oven to 500°F.) Convey a roasting pan or durable baking sheet (one that will take high temperature) within the oven to pre-heat.

2 Peel and cut sweet taters into wedges: Peel the sweet taters and stop the ends. Cut the taters in two lengthwise after which, if they're very lengthy, in two crosswise. Cut each bit into 1/4 to at least oneOr2-inch thick wedges. Alternately, you are able to slice the peeled yams into disks either having a mandoline or perhaps a sharp knife.

3 Toss with oil, salt, spices: Place the sweet taters right into a large bowl and add some oil. Mix well to mix. Sprinkle with salt and spices of your liking. Make use of your hands to combine well, so that all pieces are coated with oil and spices.

4 Disseminate onto pre-heated pan: Take away the pre-heated baking sheet in the oven. Carefully spread the sweet taters out in one layer around the baking sheet. (Be careful, the pan is hot!)

5 Bake: Bake for as many as 15 to 25 minutes. Following the first ten minutes, take away the baking sheet in the oven and employ tongs to show over all the yams pieces. Go back to the oven and bake for an additional 5-fifteen minutes, or until they're well browned. Cooking depends upon the high temperature from the oven (500F will require less cooking than 450F) and also the size and thinness from the yams wedges.

The browner they're, the crispier they'll be, but there's an excellent line between browned and burnt beyond edibility. Even when they get really dark, they ought to be good due to the natural sugars from the sweet taters caramelizing. So watch carefully.

Let awesome for five minutes before serving.

I boil the white-colored potato a short while which accelerates the oven cooking and merely aids in the taste

May I would recommend treating sweet taters while you would eggplants? Cut them into uniform fries and give a generous quantity of salt, toss well. Let are a symbol of one hour, rince and pat dry. Either proceed within the oven or around the stove, after some less heat than indicated above with no oil whatsoever. Try to see!

Love your website Elise!

Great recipe, personally I don’t like sweet taters but I've got a dog which has plenty of allergic reactions the ordinary potato but he's fine with yams, and so i have attempted your recipe with positive results as now both my dogs might have really healthy treats, they love them and therefore are so easy to make. Thanks.

Ours were set for 21 minutes and also got cremated. Unsure what went wrong. Will attempt again however for a shorter period and perhaps lower temp?

I had been craving these since i had them in a local restaurant. I put ground turmeric, nutmeg, and curry powder in it since i didn’t have the spices listed and that i was feeling rebellious. I use them a wire rack on the baking sheet on 500 levels for around 20 mins. The interior would be a little mushy however, many areas of the outdoors were black and so i required them out. They sampled great and that i can’t wait to create much more of them! Maybe with various spices the next time
