Easy Scented Pine Cones
Fast and simple method to add aromatic spices to pine cones.
I had been searching for a good way to create scented pine cones, but many methods involve painting the pine cones with white-colored glue. Whenever you’re in the center of the Christmas hurry, sometimes you'll need shortcuts and so i developed a recipe that utilizes spray glue, a plastic shopping bag and mixed spices.
Even though the strategy is fast-tracked, these scented pine cones smell divine (using a mixture of cinnamon, cloves and pickling spice) however, you can personalize the scent, if preferred, with the help of essential oils.
- assorted pine cones a combination of sizes and types adds texture and interest you'll need enough to create a sizable heap inside a cake dish
- cup pickling spice
- cup cinnamon powder
- cup whole cloves or 1/8 cup ground cloves
- spray adhesive
- plastic shopping bag
- mesh bag (and obvious plastic bag for gift-giving)
- optional: presentation basket and wide, wire-edged ribbon
1. Mix pickling spice, powdered cinnamon and cloves. If preferred, sprinkle with essential oils (a few recommendations: sandlewood, patchouli, orange, cinnamon, balsam) and blend completely. Put aside.
2. Place the pine cones right into a large plastic shopping bag and spread them out so that they form just one layer at the end from the bag. See photo at right.
3. Aim wartrol adhesive directly to the pine cones, but stand from the bag to prevent inhaling any overspray. Rapidly close the bag together with your hands and shake it completely to show the pine cones over. Open the bag, allowing the pine cones to stay in one layer at the end, and re-spray with glue.
4. Empty the pickling spice mix within the pine cones, close the bag again together with your hands and shake completely to distribute. Empty the pine cones right into a cake dish, or something like that, and permit to dry.
5. Put the scented pine cones inside a mesh bag (a recycled onion bag is effective) or sieve. Shake and stir the pine cones to dislodge any spices that aren’t sticking with the glue.
Should you’re while using mesh bag to surround the pine cones for gift-giving, tie the bag closed then enclose inside a obvious plastic bag tied with ribbon. Decorate or wrap as preferred.
6. To provide the scented pine cones inside a basket, put the mesh bag filled with pine cones in to the basket, allowing the perimeters from the mesh bag to exhibit over the basket rim (as proven within our photo, above). Or, you can just empty the pine cones in to the basket, decorate the basket having a wire-edged ribbon, and enclose all things in festive cellophane wrap tied with curling ribbon.
