Churans (Dosha Spice Mixes)
Particularly in households where each individual is really a different dosha, these spice mixes known as "churans" might help balance meals which are either tri-doshic or, say, too Vata for that Kapha in the household. Sprinkle these on foods for a little flavour that the body will appreciate! Pictured here a mix I made using ingredients in the Pitta and also the Kapha churans, since I am a Pitta-Kapha (without mango powder because it was unavailable).
VATA-BALANCING CHURAN
3 teaspoon ground fennel or anise
1 teaspoon each turmeric, ground cumin, ground ginger root, pepper, cardamom, salt, turbinado sugar, fenugreek and dried mango powder
PITTA-BALANCING CHURAN
6 teaspoon ground fennel
2 teaspoon each ground coriander and ground cumin
1 teaspoon each turmeric, salt, turbinado sugar and dried mango powder
KAPHA-BALANCING CHURAN
2 teaspoon each ground ginger root, pepper and turmeric
1 teaspoon each ground coriander, ground cumin, sweet paprika, salt, turbinado sugar and dried mango powder
For those spice mixes, mix well and store within an airtight container. Sprinkle on foods while cooking on your own or increase finished meals (soups, salads, sandwiches, stews, grain, casseroles, pasta dishes, vegetables, etc).
Alternately, choose three or four spices/herbs in the lists below. based on your dosha, and stick to the same directions when it comes to spice mixes above:
VATA SPICES
cardamom, ginger root, cumin, cinnamon, salt, cloves, mustard seed, pepper
PITTA SPICES
coriander, fennel, cumin, dill, mint, turmeric
KAPHA SPICES
turmeric, ginger root, mustard seeds, red pepper cayenne, anise, pepper, tulsi, parsley

Good idea - thank you for discussing. Since it's warm outdoors, I'll make myself a summer time mix :-)

Appreciate discussing. can one try getting a tiny bit of this having a herbal tea before you eat. I'm Kapha
Seems like advisable, Carol!
thanks claudia,
it was really really fun to complete, i've got a spice grinder on my small mixer and also the blend from whole spices is sooo fresh and appetising
and that i are in possession of a personalised spice formula that's easy to sit in my taste and also to the times of year, just inspiration which bridged me from dreaming to action!
I'm confident that you simply mean 'churna' (meaning powder- not dosha spice mixes, not Churan.
Where have you get the recipes from, they're definitley not the standard mixing of spices. just wondering.
I've got a recipe with tridoshic charna - have you got a recipe for your?

Hi, just passing by to determine something quite interesting and happily I've thought it was here. Appreciate your wonderful article it truly solved the problem a great deal. You may also visit my website for those who have time.
Churna, not churan. Your recipes aren't bad, but they're much, much easier than recipes I've caused by Ayurvedic experts. Also, different churnas should be utilized for balancing during different seasons, not for one person's individual dosha.
