Easy 25 mins Vegetarian
I’m less than sure what’s happening in my experience, however i appear to become gradually but surely losing my sweet tooth.
Should you understood me ten years ago &- heck, make that 24 months ago &- this is shocking .
Part of use is not entirely surprised, when i appear to become making healthier eating choices with every passing year. Although I’m still an enormous believer within the &"my way through moderation&" philosophy, and try to enjoy weaving some indulgences into my diet regularly. However I don’t know, recently, I appear to become craving everything savory constantly. Simply a few days ago when selecting things to eat for dessert after Thanksgiving, I might have chosen Chex Mix over pumpkin cake. Crazy!
Still, I'm greatly searching toward holiday cookie season. Even though I'm able to appreciate healthier cookie recipes, I must admit which i generally prefer to choose the real thing anytime and eat one rather of 2 or 3. And oh man, when these soft ginger root molasses cookies emerge from my oven, you’d better think that no savory Chex mix will stand it my way.
These cookies happen to be my absolute favorite cookies to create each holidays since i have first learned how you can bake. And therefore, these were really the initial cookie recipe I published about this blog in 2009. So because the recipe has a tendency to get hidden within the archives, I figured I'd pull it support today to see any one of you other molasses cookie enthusiasts. Because believe me &- it's a champion.
For any little throwback towards the good ol’ blogging times of 2009, here’s the initial photo I published of these cookies&...with an old favorite polka dotted plate which i’m confident hasn't came out around the blog since.
This recipe is really one which I have handwritten on the notecard in a traditional recipe box (remember individuals?) that my mother designed for me after i discontinued to school. I do not know where she found the recipe, but it's a literal keeper.
It’s simple to make, and helps to create the softest chewiest ginger root molasses cookies ever. Us always just folded the dough in traditional granulated sugar. But if you wish to get fancy, you are able to roll it in certain coarser turbinado sugar, or even test out other various sugars.
Allow me to be obvious though &- these cookies won't win you any eating healthily awards. Those are the traditional sweet and indulgent ginger root molasses cookies which i increased on. But allow me to guarantee &- they're worth each and every bite whenever you’re prepared to indulge. Plus, they take advantage perfect holiday gifts too if you think discussing. )
So without further ado, allow me to re-expose you to certainly one of my personal favorite recipes! Enjoy!!
Yield: About 28-32 cookies

So, my gf made these for me personally, because they are the best kind of cookie, so that as I chewed the very first bite, I possibly could have sworn these were the same as my great grandmother made. Scrumptious!!

I’ve chose to make this recipe 3 occasions now, which cookies aren't pillowy much like your photos, they're a really flat cookie. However, they're absurdly good. My new favorite. Oddly good frozen. I’m likely to try adding some flour to obtain a little more height, as there's already a lot sodium bicarbonate I doubt that's the problem. Appreciate an excellent recipe!
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven &- This summer seventh, 2016 @ 7:38 pm
We’re so glad you enjoyed these Bri! We’re sorry however they arrived on the scene so flat. We question in case your sodium bicarbonate was old? If that's the case, that may explain it.
This recipe didn’t work with me. I chilled dough several hrs, cookies still spread were thin. Taste was good although not what l was searching for :-/

Hi Carolyn — we’re so sorry to listen to these cookies didn’t come out well for you personally. ( Can it be that perhaps your sodium bicarbonate was old? That may explain why these were thin and disseminate.
Made these today and sandwiched all of them with white-colored chocolate buttercream. These were soooo good!

I made these the very first time today. Despite I allow the dough occur the fridge for several hrs it had been still super sticky. However I attempted a few cookie sheets full. These were super flat but sampled great. I just read the a few of the comments before even beginning, and so i ensured the sodium bicarbonate was fresh. I finished up adding about 1/2 cup more flour towards the chilled dough plus they switched out awesome. Appreciate discussing this recipe.
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven &- This summer 13th, 2016 @ 3:02 pm
Hi Sarah! We’re not really sure what’s causing some cookies to be released flat — we’ve tested these a thousand occasions. ( We’re glad the additional flour helped though — thank you for discussing as well as for giving these a go!
These cookies were scrumptious and soft! Perfect texture and great flavor. Used to do use half white-colored sugar and half brown sugar. I only had black strap molasses in your own home so thats things i used. Will attempt them again following a recipe. Really tasty!

This is actually the almost exact recipe I acquired from the Granny within the 1960’a aside from the quantity flour. She'd 21/4 cups flour for which was 1 / 2 of this recipe. So with this recipe I'd increase by extra half cup flour (using her proportions). I have not were built with a cookie failure with this particular recipe in 40 plus many years of causeing this to be cookie! It's a family favorite. Good frozen if they come towards the freezer. Good raw. Good packed for lunches. Good keepers. Best of luck.

Very awesome, Gloria — thank you for discussing around. D
I made these cookies plus they switched out searching nothing beats the images. They flattened out, plus they were crispy, not soft (and that i didn’t overbake them). Disappointed with this particular recipe
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven &- August 16th, 2016 @ 8:09 am
Hi Megabites! Not again, we’re so sorry to listen to that! We’ve didn't have these emerge flat, especially after refrigerating them. Could your sodium bicarbonate often be old? That may explain why they didn’t rise any. Otherwise, we’re not really sure what went wrong.
After studying your comments ought to concerning the cookies turning out flat, I purchased a brand new box of sodium bicarbonate and that i made these following a recipe exactly. I chilled the dough overnight an effort to reduce flattening, but regrettably these were totally flat. In my opinion this really is happening since the oven is simply too hot, which in turn causes all of the butter within this recipe (that is a tremendous amount) to melt too rapidly. That being stated, I attempted baking them at 325 rather of 375 plus they didn’t flatten quite as much. Hope this can help other people who encounters flat cookies! The taste of those cookies is place on and totally scrumptious they're perfect without the texture/consistency issue!
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven &- August 18th, 2016 @ 1:21 pm
Hey Megabites! Oh man, thank you for discussing this around! We're perplexed regarding how many people are winding up with flat cookies. We’ve tested this recipe so, a lot of occasions and haven't yet obtain that happen. Your point concerning the oven temp is actually interesting though so we appreciate you discussing this around!
PS this can be a different Megabites :)

Molly &- September 3, 2016 @ 1:57 pm (#)
can fresh ginger root be utilized rather of powdered?
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven &- September fourth, 2016 @ 7:35 am
Hi Molly! Sure! We simply haven’t attempted it within this recipe ourselves. We'd still recommend using powdered ginger root, but if you wish to apply certain freshly grated ginger root too, you are able to reduce the powdered amount just a little. You may also use crystalized ginger root (some recipes demand the 3 kinds of ginger root). Hopefully this can help and you benefit from the cookies!

This can be a fantastic recipe. I adopted it to some T, and also the cookies taste scrumptious. Used to do watch a couple odd things, though. After I cooled the dough for 30-40 minutes, it had been barely cooled. The outdoors from the dough would be a but chilly however that maybe it was. The remainder was room temp. I went ahead making the cookies plus they switched out superbly. Nice cracked appearence, etc. It had been getting late though and so i made the decision to help make the last couple batches the next day, and stuck the dough within the fridge. I believed that because the recipe specified for &"completely chilled&" dough to begin with, it wouldn’t hurt them. After I built them into the following day however, they flattened out into 1/4″ tall cookies without any cracked tops, only a rough top. They're crispy and scrumptious, however so no great loss for me personally.

Thank you for discussing around, Joanne! We’re so happy you enjoyed them!
Made these lately plus they were amazing! I made use of a top quality spelt flour rather of purpose flour. These were this type of hit I’ll make them again soon!
Hayley @ Gimme Some Oven &- September fifth, 2016 @ 9:30 pm
Thank you for discussing, Amy — we’re so glad you enjoyed them and you could make sure they are with a few spelt flour. )
