Oil. 1 tablespoons of
Mustard. 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds. 1/2 teaspoon
Curry Leaves. 4
Garlic clove chopped lengthwise. 4
Onion or shallots. 1/2 cup

Tomato chopped. 1/3 Cup
Turmeric Powder. 1/4 teaspoon
Chilli Powder. 1 teaspoon
Coriander Powder. 1/2 teaspoon
Yellow Moong Dal / Pasi paruppu. 1/2 Cup
Tamarind. 1/4 lemon size
Salt. When needed
Sambar Powder. 1 teaspoon

1. Wash Moong Dal(Pasi paruppu) three or four occasions in flowing water and pressure prepare it for four to five whistles.
2. Soak tamarind in serious trouble for ten minutes. Squeeze the seeds and fibre to obtain the tamarind juice. Filter the seeds and fibre. Add tamarind juice to cooked dhal as well as add salt, chilli powder, turmeric powder, sambar powder and coriander leaves.
3. Heat 1 tablespoons of of Oil and add mustard, cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add curry leaves, shallots and Garlic clove.
4. Fry till onions turn translucent. Add tomato and fry till they turn mushy.
5. Add dal and 1/2 cup water.Mix well. Once the sambar boils, add jaggery/ sugar and let it prepare for five mins till Sambar thickens
  • Adding Jaggery/ Sugar is optional.
  • For Idli and Dosa side dish, sambar ought to be little watery, remove 2 mins after sambar boils.
  • Adjust chilli for your taste.
  • For mixed vegetable sambar, prepare the vegetables individually and add some vegetables before adding dal. Alternatively, vegetables could be pressure cooked together with dal.
