I visited Khao San Road (@KhaoSanRoad ) several Fridays ago for supper. It had been a spontaneous and last second decision with several buddies (a couple of of these were visiting from Calgary). I usually thought I would check out Khao San Road for supper instead of lunch (It's my job to lay low for supper / brunch and go full-scale for supper - I'll happily go full-scale for supper too if my wallet and waistline can afford to do this). But nah, I am not complaining because my lunch at Khao San Road was outstanding.
Note: The "Love Existence" grafitti the thing is up there's really outdoors Khao San Road i was sitting in a table right near the home windows facing the road.
Khao San Road is very large and spacious, far in the small space at Sukhothai (its sister restaurant which has been available since 2008, Khao San Road opened up in The month of january of the year). It features a neat and modern turn to it with steel-presented wooden chairs and stools, silver lamps, along with a huge bar that extends completely to the rear of district. Whether it were not for that Thailand national flags, I believe the venue can certainly pass for any modern wine bar.
The whole wall at the rear of district is really a black board. It is really an extension of the items they'd at Sukhothai (which in fact had several small chalkboards on their own walls).
Khao San Road 's lunch menu is really a two-pager, A4 style.
Cha Nom Yen - An infusion of Thai spices and black tea combined with condensed milk and offered over crushed ice, also referred to as Thai iced tea.
A really, very tasty drink jogs my memory of Hong Kong style milk tea. The difference backward and forward would be that the Thai iced tea isn't as sweet, less thick / creamy, and much more refreshing than HK milk tea. I additionally love the vibrant orange colour.
Po Pia Pak Sod Gai Yaw - Fresh rolls full of home-made chicken sausage, lettuce, carrots, mint leaves and Thai tulsi, offered with this tamarind, garlic clove sauce capped with peanuts and Thai coriander.
These rolls were so fresh. I am personally fed up with locations that serves pre-folded fresh rolls where they're limp, sticky, and also the ingredients inside no more obtain that fresh "crunch" into it. Everything does not affect these rolls, these were so fresh. I possibly could easily distinguish the feel and taste of every component inside: the chicken sausage, lettuce, carrots, and also the mint leaves. The sauce seemed to be spectacular.
Gai Taud Samoon Prai (Garlic clove Chicken) - Bits of fried chicken breaded inside a crispy garlic clove and fresh kaffir lime leaf coating offered having a sweet and tangy garlic clove sauce.
Although I could not really taste the kaffir lime leaf, the batter was thin and crispy. It was good however i thought the garlic clove chicken I'd at Sukhothai before was more memorable because it was offered a great deal hotter (in temperature).
Tao Hoo Taud Samoon Prai (Garlic clove Tofu) - Nuggets of fried tofu breaded inside a crispy garlic clove and fresh kaffir lime coating offered having a sweet and tangy garlic clove sauce.
This dish looks almost exactly like the fried chicken exactly that it was tofu. All of us like the fried tofu within the fried chicken because this was more unique. I loved the way the fried coating contrasted nicely using the hot and tender tofu inside.
Gra Bong - Squash fritters made from fried squash with red curry paste, shrimp paste, lemon grass, and eggs.
I am deeply in love with these squash fritters. Each of us had one and If only there is two for everyone (well a lot more like just two for me personally). The coating on these squash fritters was diverse from the main one employed for the garlic clove chicken and tofu it had not been as crispy, but a little more dense, soft and "egg-y". The squash was naturally so sweet and also the mushy texture from it went very well using the batter. I did not make use of the sauce almost as much ast the squash fritter was great alone out of the box.
Gaeng Panang (Fish) - A wealthy thickened sauce with sliced red bell pepper, hot eco-friendly pepper, kaffir lime leaves and Thai tulsi. Curry during the day .
A couple of my buddies had this curry plus they both loved it.
Pad Thai (Mike Ros) - "Three flavours style" Chicken Pad Thai. A geniune mixture of sour, sweet and savoury an idea from the chef's hometown goodness. Capped with home-made roasted peanuts, dried chili along with a fresh slice of lime.
I'd some this also it was every bit as good when i remember so that it is after i been with them at Sukhothai.
Pad Thai (Street style) - Street style, chicken Pad Thai experience traditional authentic Pad Thai.
I did not get the opportunity to do this street style pad thai but in the looks from it, it appears to become a little more saucy compared to pad thai above.
Khao Soi - Tender beef brisket with egg noodles in coconut milk enriched curry and garnished with crisp fried noodles, eco-friendly onion, along with a slice of lime.
Mine! After I saw this around the menu I understood I did not may need to look at other things. I admired the khao soi before after i what food was in Sukhothai and I have been dying to get it again. The flavors from the khao soi was every bit as good when i appreciated so that it is the noodles on the top were super crisp, the egg noodles were thick and smooth in texture, and also the beef brisket really was tender. Used to do observe that the soup wasn't as creamy or thick such as the before I'd it at Sukhothai.
For those our entrees i was requested when we wanted mild, medium, or spicy. As well as in situation you do not think it is spicy enough, they'd hot chili oil for all of us.
We'd an excellent lunch at Khao San Road. I am interested to return soon to test their dinner too. Things I question now's the next: is Sukhothai still as busy? May be the food at Sukhothai still just like before? Drop us a line knowing :)
