Excellent mincemeat recipe! I zested the citrus as recommended in the solution to my question published around the boards, then only used the interior sections, discarding the peels. I Then put the zest, sections and 1 / 2 of the apples within my mixer fitted using the blade. Pulsed that for any bit then put that who are holding cards. Another 1 / 2 of the apples and raisins went using it . process. The only issue I'd was my mixture wouldn't thicken. I needed to allow it to simmer for around an hour after adding the sugar and spices, rather from the recommended twenty minutes. Initially I figured the next time I'd use less cider, however i think the additional lengthy simmering time helped the taste and i believe it was all worthwhile for that finish result. The jarred mincement may be tasty, but it's costly, and my hubby stated it was nearly as good or much better than any mince cake he's eaten. So, I'll be by using this recipe in the future. I made one cake and froze all of those other filling. I'll only acquire one more cake out this though, and that i designed a 9" cake, so I'm not sure what went down there. There is no way I'd enough filling for several pies. Thank you for discussing this recipe! Now my hubby might have his mince cake in your own home rather of awaiting his mother to really make it! UPDATE: I made use of all of those other filling for any Thanksgiving cake. I pulled it from the freezer and sort of smooshed it lightly in to the crust. it never really freezes solid. I added the reason I believe I only got 2 pies using this happens because my cake plate is really a 4-cup capacity, while there are several which are smaller sized (I've one that's 3 cup capacity also). if you make use of a smaller sized cake plate, Home theater system . might get 3 pies using this. Note: I baked my frozen filled one for around 40 minutes at 425 coupled with to defend the crust the final 10 mins. Unfrozen filling must take about half an hour. Many thanks for that recipe, Sharon!
Really gave this 4 and 1/2 stars, thought it was completely different to commercial we purchase within Canada..I added about 4 ounces of currants ,Used to do discover the orange came via a bit strong, however i guess this is founded on the person orange you utilize, concerning flavour, outcome was three well filled 9" pies, thank you for posting. Don
I chopped the apples and raisins within the mixer then simmered all ingredients within the slow oven all mid-day. The aroma was wonderful. This made about eight cups or enough for 3 very full pies. I made one cake and froze all of those other mixture inside a freezer bag for future use.
