W e, Indians have a tendency to celebrate many festivals throughout an year. Its diversity when it comes to people, religions, traditions and cultures provides for us an opportunity to ritualize every single happiness with many different gusto.


The very first festival of the season, which signifies the celebration first harvest (of especially grain in the paddy fields) is - Sankranthi or Pongal (because it known as in southeast India) - an ideal here we are at family gatherings, super scrumptious foodie treats, beautiful rangolis sketched in courtyards not to mention kite flying which was once my personal favorite factor to complete my childhood. Grain Pudding With Jaggery Bellam Paramannam


Makes 6 servings
Recipe: My Mother

1 cup white-colored grain
2 cups milk
2 cups water
11/4 cup powdered jaggery
1/2 cup as a whole - raisins, chopped cashewnuts and dried coconut pieces.
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
2 teaspoon ghee

Step One. Prepare 1 cup of grain with 2 glasses of water until fork tender.

Step Two. Add milk. Mix well. Simmer for five mins, stirring frequently.

Step Three. Switch off heat. Add powdered jaggery. Mix once. Cover. Mix again after 5 mins.

Step Four. Melt ghee in a tiny kadai. Add raisins, cashew nuts and coconut pieces. Fry until light golden brown. Add some contents to the jaggery pudding. Stir well and allow it to awesome a little. Serve.

1. Don't boil pudding once jaggery is added otherwise there's a danger the milk can get curdled.

2. Save the remaining pudding within the fridge and subsequently day reheat it with a mug of milk because it has a tendency to thicken a little and it is prepared to be devoured, for your sinful second serving!
