Our most widely used recipes round the holidays is that this one—Swedish meatballs. They’re terrific over egg noodles for any primary course, or offered as individual appetizers.
My first experience with Swedish meatballs came by means of room service in a hotel in Stockholm. I had been traveling on your own for business, holed in my room in comfy clothes with books to help keep me company.
I purchased the only real factor around the menu that looked familiar—meatballs—that first night. These were so great I believe I licked home plate clean. I remained in and purchased the meatballs every evening throughout the trip!
Since that time I’ve been in a search to locate a Swedish meatball nearly as good, so we’ve tried it here. If you want the meatballs at IKEA, be ready they are 100 occasions better.
Flavored with nutmeg and cardamom, these little beef-and-pork meatballs would be best offered having a wealthy meat gravy spiked with sour cream along with a little lingonberry jelly. You may either serve the jelly quietly or mixed directly into the sauce, that is what we should’ve done here.
Have you got a family favorite recipe for Swedish meatballs? If that's the case, please tell us about this within the comments. I’ve observed several recipes with allspice, which we haven’t utilized in this recipe, however, you could certainly utilize it instead of or additionally towards the cardamom or nutmeg.

OMG! This recipe is really good! Everybody loved it. I can tell it being a favorite soon!
So a lot better than the Alton Brown recipe, which doesn’t have sufficient binder in meat and also the meatballs break apart and it is too light on spices. This can be a lovely gravy, but like others, I added allspice, along with a pinch of every within the gravy having a bay leaf, and that i elevated the gravy recipe with a third and added just a little Vermouth, a few tbsps. I additionally cooked it for 10 mins before I added the meatballs directly into prepare another 10 mins. Very, excellent.
Added allspice and ginger root (per The Nordic Cook book). Otherwise adopted recipe. Outcome was excellent. Glad you had been totally hooked on meatballs in Norway, Elise. Great recipe. Thanks.
